Regular check-ups:

Long Pond Pediatrics believes in the benefits of regular preventative care, and therefore, encourages all of our patients to return for periodic well child visits. For your convenience, we open our schedules 3 months in advance. Comprehensive examinations are required for children according to the following schedule:

  • 2 weeks of age
  • 2 months of age
  • 4 months of age
  • 6 months of age
  • 9 months of age
  • 12 months of age
  • 15 months of age
  • 18 months of age
  • 24 months of age

Beyond 2 years of age we recommend a physical each year around the child's birthday. Most insurance's recognize the importance of well child care and cover annual visits. New York State mandates physical examinations when entering 2nd, 4th, 7th, 10th grades and college.

At each well child visit your child will receive a complete physical exam. Growth and development will also be reviewed. Necessary immunizations will be administered, periodic screening tests done, and questions answered. Please update us of any changes in your child's medications or general health. For these regular check ups you will see your pediatrician or a nurse practitioner. Also at each visit, we will ask you to notify us of any changes in your address, telephone number or insurance coverage.

At 10 or 11 years of age, we feel it is important to encourage children to become active participants in their own health care. Parents who encourage their children to spend some, if not the entire visit, alone with the physician or nurse practitioner during their routine physical exam, can best accomplish this objective. This time alone allows the child to begin expressing concerns about his/her body and changing development. Parental concerns and/or questions will continue to be addressed at all visits.

Acute Visits

If your child has a new illness and needs to be seen during office hours please call to schedule an appointment. Remember, our nurses are available to provide guidance if you are unsure of your child needs to be seen. Whenever possible, we will see your child the same day. Morning appointments will be scheduled first. This allows us to preserve late afternoon appointments for late day emergencies. If your child requires an afternoon appointment it is best to call late morning or early afternoon to request an appointment.

In consideration of all of our patients and in order to allocate enough time to provide your children with the best care possible, we require each child who needs to be seen to have an appointment. If you have more than one child who needs to be seen, please specify this when your appointments are made. We respect your time and will make every effort to remain on schedule, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. Again, if you are unable to keep an appointment please notify us immediately. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required so that another patient may utilize this time. A fee will be applied to your account for all missed appointments or those not cancelled within 24 hours notice.

Consults

Consults are extended visits and are available for parents to discuss ongoing issues or behavioral concerns in regards to their child. Examples include school problems, sleep disturbances, and behavioral problems. In most cases, we ask that parents come to this appointment without their child. If you are coming to discuss school performance it is helpful to provide the following items one week prior to your visit:

School evaluations

Teacher evaluations

Report cards

Consult appointments are scheduled several weeks in advance to allow parents to gather information.
