ACNE:
Childhood/Adolescent acne is due to the plugging of the oil glands. It is not
caused by fried foods, chocolate or any other foods. It is also not caused by
sexual activity.
The first line of defense against all acne is washing of the skin. The skin
should be washed twice a day with a mild soap such as Dove or Neutrogena acne
wash. Do not scrub the skin; this can irritate the openings of the oil glands.
Use Benzoil Peroxide 5% lotion or gel to all acne, pimples or blackheads. This
should be applied at bedtime. If the skin becomes too red or begins to peel,
cut back on the amount you are using or use every other night.
Remember to give these steps time to work. It can take up to 8 weeks before you notice an improvement. If your acne is not responding to the above treatments, contact the office and we will schedule an appointment with your Doctor.
