FLU
The Flu is a seasonal illness that is usually seen between the months of December and March. Influenza is a common viral infection that can be very contagious and has an incubation period of only 24 to 36 hours. The main symptoms are:

- Sore throat
- Dry cough
- Nasal congestion
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Fever
- Chills

The treatment for flu in children is symptomatic. For fever and chills Tylenol or Motrin can be used. For the cold-like symptoms, that are interfering with sleep over the counter medications such as cough suppressants may be used according to the correct doses for your child. Flu vaccine is available usually in October of each year. Children with chronic diseases such as asthma, or heart disease should have a yearly flu shot. Healthy children over the age of six months may receive flu vaccine if supplies are adequate.
