
LYME DISEASE
- Most common disease spread by a tick bite
- Unique rash, bulls eye in appearance > 2 in. width
- Develops 3-30 days after bite
- Flu-like Symptoms can also develop
Cause:
- Corkscrew shaped bacterium transmitted by a little deer tick the size of a
pinhead
-50% ticks are infected
Prevention:
- Long clothing, insect repellant while hiking/camping in shrubbery areas
- Check neck/hair for ticks and shower after hike
- Transmission takes 18-24 hrs, if ticks are removed quickly there is little
risk
Tick Removal:
- Pull off/use tweezers, grip its head and pull upward
- Call immediately:
- You can’t remove the tick
- Fever or widespread rash 2 wks after tick bite
- Child starts acting very sick

- You think your child might have Lyme disease
