NIGHTMARES
Nightmares are scary dreams that awaken a child. Bad dreams are normal at all
ages after 6 months of age. Infants will cry and scream until someone comes
to them. Preschool children will cry and run to their parents’ room. The
main goal is to reassure and cuddle your child. Sit on the edge of the bed until
your child is calm. Leave door open to bedroom. Provide a night light if necessary.
Make sure your child is not watching scary or violent television programs before
bed. Watching these can cause fears for months. If nightmares get worse or interfere
with daytime activities, you might want to call our office.
